What is behavioral health?

Behavioral Health is the well-being of your emotional, psychological, and social state. Behavioral Health includes mental health and substance use.

  • Mental Health Disorders are changes in thinking, mood, and/or behavior that cause significant impairments and inability to meet everyday responsibilities. Examples of mental health disorders include anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and schizophrenia, among others.
  • Substance Use Disorder is a disease that affects a person’s brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medication. This diagnosis occurs when the recurrent use of substance use causes clinically significant impairments and an inability to meet responsibilities at work, school, or home. Common substances include: alcohol, opioids, stimulants, and hallucinogens.
